Records relating to railways

Scope and Content

In the early years of its existence Aluminium Corporation Limited was involved in the construction of both incline and standard gauge railways for its own use for building dams and moving freight and it also had financial interests in various other railway companies. The interests in other railway companies were sold off in the years following the Eigiau Dam disaster of 1925 and use of their own railway lines declined as road transport became a more viable option, with all use of the railways having stopped by the late 1960s.
