Scope and Content

One handwritten volume with lock (open) which includes minutes of the General Board, Executive Committee, subcommittee, shareholders quarterly and annual meetings, from 2 November 1927 to 12 August 1931. The volume includes a letter from Mr Wrigley dated 13 February 1928 on proposals concerning the regular submission of bank statements and petty cash book to the Board is pasted onto pages. Subjects discussed include the running of the Co-operative News and printing work done for other organisations, sales of newspapers and advertising, publicity, organisation of employees’ picnics and social events, news coverage of and attendance at co-operative events and correspondence with clients. Loose papers: undated Editorial Department Report saying that the crisis in national affairs will be the chief feature in the Co-operative News this week and that a series of articles by Mr Mercer will be starting in the Co-operative News, postcard dated 27 July 1931 from W R Rae to say he will be on holiday in August and that he will be in Ireland summer schooling, proof of article dated 14 December 1929 with amendments on the Half Yearly meeting, handwritten note with doodles, undated, on the issue of removal of books being left in the hands of the chairman, minutes of the Divisional Meeting held in London 9 June 1928, minutes of the Half-Yearly Meeting held in Manchester 16 June 1928, rules of the National Co-operative Publishing Society 1928, letter dated 9 May 1931 from William Bentley of John M Biggar to the Board of Management to confirm completion of the audit with various remarks, with memorandum on the expenses account and trade account and particulars expenses of full board meetings.
