      1 vol. ([x], 200 pp.), press cuttings interspersed with manuscript annotations. Pp. 108-122 are blank. Only the back board is extant, being covered in black cloth with some blind tooling. At the beginning of the volume there is a 10 page thumb index which is blank. The main body of the volume is paginated.

Scope and Content

Comprises many dozens of press cuttings concerning the work and products of W.H. Baxter Ltd between 1891 and 1904, with full manuscript annotations of the sources and dates of each cutting up to p. 107, followed on pp. 123-200 by similar cuttings with annotations concerning rival companies in Great Britain, North America, and Commonwealth countries for the same period. There are many photographs, diagrams, and advertisements included in the cuttings, which are pasted on to the pages of the scrapbook.

W.H. Baxter Ltd of Leeds, founded by W.H. Baxter, was a firm which specialised in the manufacture of stone breaking machinery. It operated between the closing years of the nineteenth century until the 1980s, when it was taken over by Bramley Engineering, also of Leeds.
