This manuscript legal book, soft bound and covered with a fragment of medieval liturgicalmanuscript, contains some 80 pages of manuscript text. The volume is written in several differenthands and at some point, it has been inverted and blank pages at the back have been used. The mainpart of the text contains details of legal cases while the rear portion contains notes from officialand historical records. A loose list of the names of sheriffs of Essex from 1661 to 1718 survivesinside the front cover.
Several pages of dated memoranda by George Andrewes are included, from 1668 to 1710, particularlyconcerning political events and appointments, deaths and other events involving senior legalofficers. The final entries appear to be by Andrewes' son, and include a description of the AuroraBorealis on 6 March 1716.
