Scope and Content

Miscellaneous volumes, including: Italian psalter, Belgian missal and German sermons, 15th century; Memorials of William Drummond of Hawthornden (1585-1649), continued by his son, William (1636-1677), including genealogical notes 1562-1700; rental of the Panmure Estates 1724-1727; commonplace books, 18th C-1869; medical notes [18th century]; private register of members of St. John the Evangelist Church, Pittenweem 1856-1866 and St. Andrews Chapel, Brechin, 1866-1891; extracts from the chartulary of the Abbey of Aberbrothock [Arbroath], (1284-1484); extracts from the Kirk Session Books at Dundee 1688-1690.

Administrative / Biographical History

The Diocese of Brechin largely covers the counties of Kincardine, Angus and Perth. In 1792 the Diocesan Library was founded to collect books and manuscripts for the improvement of the clergy. In 1962 the library was deposited with Dundee University.
