The father of the donor was formerly a chartered accountant who in 1919 became a farm pupil. He managed various farms until 1928, when he took over Nell Bridge Farm with capital of 400, in partnership with two others whom he later bought out. Nell Bridge farm was at first a dairy farm with a large Border Leicester/Cheviot breeding flock and a few acres of arable for lucerne and straw. Since 1940 the farm has steadily changed to arable farming. Farm size 250 acres; stone brash; tenants to Ecclesiastical Commissioners until the purchase of the farm in 1961; part of the farm is very low-lying and subject to floods
