The Bedwellty parliamentary constituency was formed in 1918 from part of the former constituency of Monmouthshire. From 1918 to the present (2004) the constituency has had unbroken Labour Party representation in Parliament, namely Sir Charles Edwards, 1918-1950, Harold Finch, 1950-1970, Neil Kinnock, 1970-1995, and Don Touhig from 1995.
