A statutory committee appointed under the Fire Services Act 1947 (10 & 11 Geo. VI c. 41) whereby county and county borough councils were designated fire authorities responsible for providing a fire-protection service in their areas. Responsibility was thus transferred from the National Fire Service. The Act required each fire authority to submit a draft Establishment Scheme to the Home Secretary. The Committee included representatives of district authorities.
