Risca Urban District Council Records

Records of Risca Urban District Council, 1894-1974, and Risca Local Board of Health, 1878-1894.

Risca Urban District Council (UDC), Monmouthshire, was established under the provisions of the Local Government Act 1894. The Council comprised a number of councillors and a chairman and superseded Risca Local Board. Its responsibilities included sanitary services, sewerage, refuse collection, housing, streets, cemeteries, libraries, parks, controls on buildings such as petrol stations, and licensing of public entertainments. UDCs were administered by a number of committees and by appointed officers including a Clerk, Treasurer, Medical Officer of Health, Surveyor and Sanitary Inspector. Risca UDC was abolished in 1974, becoming part of the new Borough of Islwyn.
