Microfilms of clinical records

Administrative / Biographical History

These reels of 8mm film were produced for the GRMH in an effort to reduce the amount of space taken up by non-current records. They include images taken from case books, i.e. records organised by the ward and/or name of the doctor in charge. They also include images of records kept as evidence that midwives and others undergoing training had attended the minimum number of deliveries required by the regulatory bodies. The great majority, however, consist of unit case files, i.e. files of papers each of which relates to one episode of care for one patient. Each case file was assigned a unique number: where corresponding registers of admissions exist the case numbers can be found in them. A distinction is made between Indoor and Outdoor cases. Indoor cases were patients treated in the hospital. Outdoor cases were patients cared for outside the hospital, usually in their own homes. Finally, the records on microfilm include some from Stobhill Hospital relating to births that took place there.
