Konrad Vernon Hopkins was born in  1928  in London, Connecticut, the son of a sailor. He was educated at a school in Massachusets and went on to study for a degree in English Literature at Harvard University from  1946-1950 . After spending three years in the United States Air Force until 1953, he worked as Editor and Secretary to the American author and short story writer  James T Farrell (1904-1979 ), with whom he formed a strong friendship. Hopkins held several teaching posts at American colleges and universities in the 1950s and 1960s. From  1958-1959  he worked freelance as a co-producer of plays at Princeton University, developing what was known as Theatre in Time. In 1960 he moved to Clarkson College of Technology, New York State, teaching Humanities and Liberal Arts, until  1966 . It was also during this period that he traveled widely around Europe and whilst in Vienna started to teach English at the Vienna Berlitz School of Languages (1966-1967). Konrad Hopkins came to Scotland in  1967 , when he took up the post of Lecturer in Communication Studies at the  University of Paisley (formerly Paisley Technical College ). He retired in 1993. Throughout his life Konrad Hopkins has been a writer of novels, poetry, plays and literary criticism. He has also been involved in the publishing world, editing the literary magazine Trends from 1974-1980.
