Scope and Content

Unlabelled ledger that belonged to Sir James Wishart Thomson II of Edinburgh, grandson of William Thomson and a partner in Wm Thomson & Co between 1892-1929. The volume contains entries concerning his shares held in Ben Line and Leith and St. Petersburg Shipping Co (Petrograd Steamers) ships. His name features at the top of each dated period of entry. It records the name and total value of each ship, the value of his shares, dividends to be paid on each ship, his profit or loss per ship and his total profit or loss for the period of entry. The volume also records capital invested and returned for his varying business interests as well as a summary of the value of his shares in Wm Thomson & Co ships for the years 1899-1911 at the rear of the volume
