Telegrams

Archive Unit

Scope and Content

An extremely important collection of telegrams covering almost the entire period of Diaghilev's Ballets Russes. The larger part of the collection consists of telegrams to and from Serge Diaghilev, largely responding to requests for his decisions, or in answer to his questions. A number of telegrams relate to departures and arrivals of members of the company, providing useful information about individual and company movements. There are also a number of telegrams to and from Stravinsky which have been separated from the correspondence series.

Arrangement

This series is divided into two sub-series: telegrams from Diaghilev and others relating to the operation of the Ballets Russes, and telegrams between Stravinsky and others relating to his American Tour. These telegrams were purchased separately by Parmenia Ekstrom.
