Scope and Content

Manuscript notes relating to 'Tomorrow is a Stranger' by Geoffrey Trease. The file includes notes taken from various secondary sources about the German occupation of Guernsey during World War II; a typescript outline plan for the book, annotated in Trease's hand; brief notes on the plot and some revisions to the text; a timeline for the period 1940-1945, divided into 'fact' and 'fiction', which maps how the fictional events of the story relate to the actual historical events of the period; and two sets of index cards, one set containing notes on characters in the story and the other containing brief notes on the events in each chapter of the book. The file also contains a letter to Geoffrey Trease from 'Patricia' who appears to have advised Trease on the accuracy of the section of chapter 8 describing Miss Grimbly playing the organ in church. A brief note on the first page of the letter in Trease's hand indicates that Patricia's suggested changes were incorporated into the text.
