Letter from Richard Clarke to Lord Palmerston

Scope and Content

Letter from Richard Clarke to Lord Palmerston, Foreign Secretary, to inform that the Society has done a lot of research on Cuneiform inscriptions under Major Rawlinson but they understand that a major 'find', a basalt slab 7'x 3' x 1' with cuneiform inscriptions has been located at Larcaca in Cyprus which might be available to HM Consul for a small fee and the slab then conveyed to England on one of HM ships. If this is not possible an alternative would be to take facsimiles of the slab and to forward these to London. A memorandum on how to prepare the impressions is enclosed. (Found on page 106)
