Buxton Papers. United Kingdom politics; 1881-1893. Reports, memoranda, copies of political speeches and Parliamentary debates, papers, and press cuttings. Includes material relating to ‘Mr. Tuke’s Fund’. Sydney Buxton was joint honorary secretary of a fund set up in 1882 by the banker and philanthropist James Hack Tuke (1819-1896). Its purpose was to promote emigration from the west of Ireland (counties of Mayo and Galway) to Canada and the United States of America.
