Scope and Content

File of correspondence between Emberton and Ivor Bulwer-Thomas, Acting Managing Editor of the Daily Telegraph newspaper, regarding Emberton's ideas for the developing the area around St Paul's Cathedral in the City of London after wartime bombing. Emberton had made proposals which, he argued, would solve traffic problems in the area and the file includes a document entitled 'Economical Creation of Space for Traffic'. After a meeting to discuss the matter, Bulwer-Thomas put Emberton's proposals to his Architectural Editor, John Betjeman, and declined to take the article further. The file includes two copies of an article from the Daily Telegraph, 5 Aug 1955, by Henry Bate entitled 'How to Get the Buildings We Deserve'.
