Scope and Content

Cartoon showing a man looking at four different corsets in a shop window, which remind him of the women he has had in his life. The French caption translates to: "Amazing! I've had four sizes just like that in my life, Fifi my first! Cocotte, that bitch cocotte! The grand Mimi and my wife up in the corner". The image is a colour sketch. It may be a satirical commentary on the suggestive effects of underwear being displayed openly.

Satirical cartoon by Honoré Daumier, who was well known for his caricatures on French social and political issues. Published by Chez Bauger R. du Croissant 16, who were known for their publishing of caricatures in France.

The source is unknown, but it was likely purchased as a teaching resource for the School of Corsetry, now known as Contour Fashion.
