Administrative / Biographical History

The National Union of Scientific Workers was founded in 1918; it changed its name to the Association of Scientific Workers in 1927. In 1968 the union amalgamated with the Association of Supervisory Staffs, Executives and Technicians to form the Association of Scientific, Technical and Managerial Staffs.n of Scientific, Technical and Managerial Staffs in 1976.

Access : Written permission from Manufacturing, Science, Finance is required before access allowed to the records; unpublished material may not be consulted for ten years after its composition; Manufacturing, Science, Finance's approval is to be sought for the publication of previously unpublished material.

The archive has been given the classification MSS.79 together with a unique suffix to indicate that it is a constituent part of the papers of the Association of Scientific, Technical and Managerial Staffs (now part of Manufacturing, Science, Finance) . There are several related deposits at the Modern Records Centre and these are listed under the entry for the Association of Scientific, Technical and Managerial Staffs (MSS.79/AS) .
