Papers relating to lectures and exhibitions

Scope and Content

A grouping of material relating to lectures given by Strachan and exhibitions which included material from his collection. He was a lecturer for the National Association of Decorative and Fine Arts Societies (NADFAS) from 1973 to 1990, and lectured to numerous member societies on a range of topics - largely focusing around aspects of modern painting and sculpture. There are two large files of correspondence and papers relating to his NADFAS work included here. The series also includes notes for, and drafts of, lectures given by Strachan over a thirty-year period, including talks on painting, sculpture, French book illustration and the livre d'artiste, and French tapestry; there is also a small quantity of material relating to lectures on other topics - principally literary. In addition, there are some papers (such as correspondence and publicity material) relating to exhibitions which featured material from his collection, and to his bequest of owl prints and drawings to the Victoria and Albert Museum in 1993.

Arrangement

The material was largely organised into bundles and files; these file divisions have been retained in the current catalogue.
