Papers relating to Lucile Passavant

Scope and Content

A grouping of material labelled by Geoffrey Strachan as "The Lucile Passavant dossier", containing papers relating to Lucile Passavant, the French sculptor and wood engraver. Strachan became interested in Passavant's sculpture after attending her exhibition at the Madden Gallery in London in 1965. Passavant also modeled for the central figure in Aristide Maillol's sculpture of Three nymphs, in the Tate Gallery collection, and Maillol became an important influence on her work; Strachan wrote an article about this which appeared in The Art Quarterly in 1991. The papers included here relate to the Maillol sculpture, other work by Maillol, and Passavant's work as a wood engraver (including some original proof pages of her woodcuts for an edition of Perrault's fairy tales).
