Scope and Content

These ten volumes consist of a diary, a volume of newspaper cuttings, and eight books of stories and reflections; subjects include Christianity and death, and often involve characters known to bthe writer.

Henry Chandler was born in Oxford in 1855. At the time of his marriage in 1876 he was living in Paradise Square and later lived in Friar Street. In the 1880s he moved to 41 Marlborough Road, Grandpont, where he lived until his death in 1945. In the 1891 census his occupation is given as a tailor; by this date he had six children.

The books were given to the office by private donor in March 1997, and have the accession number 4220.
