Flintshire Lime Works Papers

Scope and Content

Comprises file of papers relating to lime works in Flintshire, 1863-1883. Includes correspondence (2 February 1882 - 2 January 1883) of Thomas Goulden of the Halkyn Lime and Cement Company with his colleague James Mackinson of Ormskirk. Correspondence is concerned with prices for lime, establishment of new kilns, difficulties in acquiring railway-siding facilities, connections with Hendre Lime Company and the Pilkington Chemical Works at Widnes, etc. Also includes 2 wages sheets. Other papers relate to a query regarding the title of the Glan-yr-Afon Quarry Company Ltd., deed of share transfer (20 June 1881) from this company to Hughes, Penny&Co., pursuant to agreement; also includes a share certificate of John Roskill in the Minera Ragman Mining Company Ltd., dated 20 May 1863.

Administrative / Biographical History

The Halkyn Lime and Cement Company operated at Rhyd-y-mwyn, near Mold in Flintshire, north Wales. It was managed c. 1882 by Thomas Goulden.
