Entomological Notebooks and Letters

Scope and Content

There are 3 notebooks in the series:

  • Volume 1, about 100 pages, has observations on insects, dated between 1901 and 1915.
  • Volume 2, about 50 pages, contains notes on insects on a few pages only.
  • Volume 3, about 200 pages, has observations on insects written from 30 June 1873 to 1879 and has a list of species.

Besides the notebooks, there are various letters to Jenkinson, including a letter from his sister dated 6 July 1873.

Administrative / Biographical History

Francis John Henry Jenkinson (1853-1923) was Curator of Insects at the University Museum of Zoology, Cambridge 1878-1879. He was Cambridge University Librarian from 1890 until his death in 1923. His collection of insects came to the Museum of Zoology on 28 September 1923.

Access Information

Manuscripts can be consulted on appointment only. The Museum of Zoology is open Monday to Friday 9:00 am to 17:00 pm. Access and reproduction is at the discretion of the Archivist.

Acquisition Information

The papers in this collection were presented in 1923 together with the collection of insects.
