Administrative / Biographical History
The Socialist Labour League was formed in 1959 as an entrist Trotskyist group. It controlled the Young Socialists (the Labour Party's official youth section) in the early 1960s. The newspaper 'Keep Left' was produced by the SLL. The SLL began to abandon entryism in 1964 and developed as a separate political party, involving itself in rank and file industrial activism through the All Trade Unions Alliance. In 1973 the Socialist Labour League was renamed the Workers Revolutionary Party (WRP) and it contested parliamentary elections from 1974 onwards. Allegations regarding sexual assaults on female party members by Gerry Healy led to a schism in 1985. This resulted in two groups - supporters of Healy formed WRP (Newsline) whilst opponents formed WRP (Workers' Press).
