Scope and Content

Papers which consist mostly of correspondence and which are a reflection of the activities of Gwilym Cowlyd as the editor of the work of Ieuan Glan Geirionydd and Owen Gethin Jones; and of his activities as a seller of rare books, pamphlets, journals and old Welsh furniture. Includes, a bundle of photocopies of correspondence to and from Gwilym Cowlyd by a variety of individuals, including Lord Penrhyn and Sir John Morris-Jones. Also, an acrostic style poem entitled Gorsedd Beirdd Ynys Brydain

Administrative / Biographical History

William John Roberts, 1827-1904, was better known by his bardic name, Gwilym Cowlyd. He was a poet, publisher and bookseller and amongst his published works are Bywyd a Gweithiau Ieuan Glan Geirionydd, and Gweithiau Gethin.
