Scope and Content

Consists of:

- minutes of meetings with representatives of 26 organisations relating to Russian refugee women and children in the Far East. First meeting held on 16 Jul 1935. Decided to hold a public meeting on 19 Nov 1935 (flyer and mintues attached). Aim of meeting was to receive reports and information concerning the position of Russian women refugees in the Far East with special reference to those forced into prostitution, and to consider calling a public meeting to launch a public appeal for their relief. Minutes of British Appeal Committee for Russian Women refugees in the Far East with report by Janet Mitchell (with minutes for 16 Jun 1936); considering what to do with the collected money (minutes for 22 Jul 1937)

- accounts: carbon copy of financial account for Russian Women's Hostel for year 1937; and copy of receipts and expenses for the British Appeal Committee for Russian Women Refugees in the Far East (1935-1936)

- letters of receipt of cheques which were sent through the Nansen International Office for Refugees to the Russian Women's Hostel in Shanghai for the relief of Russian refugee women and girls

- letter with details of the Russian Women's Hostel in Shanghai (9 Jun 1938)

- press cuttings concerning the Russian Women's Hostel (one in French)(1938)
