Employment of Women Police

Scope and Content

Consists of: papers and publications concerning the work of the National Council of Women in recommending an increase in the number of women police employed for preventive, protective and detective work with women and children.

Many of these papers belonged to Miss Edith Tancred who was a member of the National Council of Women of Great Britain and Ireland. She gave evidence to the committees on the employment of policewomen in the 1920s. The Association for Moral and Social Hygiene supported this work.
