Scope and Content

Letters predominantly relating to three projects:

  • Readings of Gormenghast by the Western Australian Theatre Company (includes letters from director Lionel Farrell, programmes, poster and newspaper cuttings).
  • British Theatre of the Deaf performance of 'Boy in Darkness' (includes story outline, script, programme, tour itinerary and cutting of Daily Telegraph review).
  • Oxford University Experimental Theatre Club's production of 'Titus Alone' (includes programme and letters from co-directors Patrick Harbinson and Justin Gilbert).

There are also letters proposing other stage or film productions of Mervyn's work ('Titus Groan', 'Gormenghast', 'Mr Pye', 'The Wit To Woo'), as well as requests to reproduce his drawings for publicity purposes.
