Scope and Content
Administrative / Biographical History
The Local Government (Wales) Act, 1994 replaced the then tiers of local government at district and county level with single tier unitary authorities. The new Flintshire County Council covers the geographical area formerly served by Delyn Borough Council and Alyn and Deeside District Council and became responsible for all the services delivered in that area by Clwyd County Council and the two district councils. The Act came into force on 1 April 1996, but throughout the previous twelve months a shadow Flintshire County Council planned the organisation and delivery of its future services.
Arrangement
Arranged by Department and Corporate Activity. Structure of the collection is still being created and reviewed as few records have yet been transferred from Flintshire County Council.
Access Information
Data Protection Act restrictions will apply to any items less than 100 years old that contain personal information as defined by the Act.

Please order documents using the alternative reference number (where provided).
Other Finding Aids
A hard copy of the catalogue is available in Flintshire Record Office. Catalogue is searchable online at: http://calmview.flintshire.gov.uk/CalmView/
Archivist's Note
The records of the new Flintshire County Council were allocated the collection code FN which contrasts them with the records of the pre-1974 Flintshire County Council, FC. The corporate activities of the new county council are distinguished in classes by a numerical sequence e.g. FN/1 Flintshire County Council Shadow Authority, FN/2 County Council Minutes and so forth. The departments of the new county council were allocated an alphabetic sequence e.g. FN/A Chief Executive, FN/B Finance
