Scope and Content

From John Lane, regarding prices for volumes for the English and American markets: 'I wish at the same time you would consider the question of handing to me the Baby's Opera [etc.] which have been selling fairly well on the strength of the reprints being widely advertised but which I am certain I could do better with. Mr Evans whom I have seen since I saw you is of a like opinion and wishes to see them transferred to me.'

Crane notes in the margin: 'wrote Aug 1 depends on numbers ordered. Cannot make ends meet at 1d. proposed the book higher! or more?'.
