Scope and Content

Cardiff Patternmakers Association records comprising of minute books, 1945-1977

Administrative / Biographical History

The Cardiff Patternmakers Association was an affiliated branch of the United Patternmakers Association, which was established in 1872 in the north east of England. The United Patternmakers Association expanded rapidly, incorporating local societies including Cardiff, Glasgow, Leeds and London. It was never a very large union. In response to technical changes which undermined its skilled craft base it widened its scope and adopted the name Association of Patternmakers and Allied Craftsmen in 1969.
