New Testament with Apocalypse in Church Slavonic.

St John’s Apocalypse [or the Book of Revelation; Rus. Apokalipsis]

The writing of the ms was completed on 16 January 1816 or 7324 from the Creation of the World. Dates in the colophon at the end of the book, the colophon also states that the text is in a ‘secular [Russian] dialect’, which is probably supposed to mean that the language is a simplified Church Slavonic. Ms in folio.

Fos 4v.-6: Introduction to St Andrew, the Bishop of Caesarea in Cappadocia’s Commentary on the Apocalypse [not in the Table of Contents]

Fos 7- to the end: text of the Book of Revelation

Ms provenance inside the upper board: ‘Presented to the Library of University College Nottingham by Professor [Janko] Lavrin’ (1887-1986)

Brown leather binding over wooden boards, possibly contemporary, with a simple vegetative ornament blind-stamped in strips on both upper and lower covers; leather fastenings with metal elements, fully intact. Paper has watermarks.

Previous classmarks: ‘University of Nottingham MS 26’ and ‘Book Number 72335’.
