Walter Richard Sickert - Letters

Scope and Content

Two letters written by Walter Richard Sickert. One written in German to his mother dated July 27 1870 when Walter was ten. The handwriting is hard to decipher but the letter was written from the British sea-side and he writes of the children flying kites, his father bought them all shovels, going for a long walk and seeing a man drown.
The other letter is dated Feb 11 1932 and addressed from 14 Barnsbury Park London N1. It was written to the Vice-Chancellor of University of Manchester concerning the Honorary Dr Litt conferred on him in 1932. The letter was donated to the collection 4 May 1995, by the daughter of Prof JL Stocks who was at University of Manchester in 1932.
