Scope and Content

Glass Bottle Makers of Yorkshire United Trade Protection Society, Quarterly Reports, 1867-1868 (bound volume, including enclosures); Yorkshire Glass Bottle Manufacturers' Association, 25th anniversary volume of photographs, autographs and circulars, presented to Bagley, 1876; copies of addresses of appreciation to Dr. Stanley C. Bagley, son of William Bagley, 1948, 1957.

Administrative / Biographical History

William Bagley was Secretary of the Glass Bottle Makers of Yorkshire United Trade Protection Society, and founded the Yorkshire Glass Bottle Manufacturers' Association in 1851.

Archivist's Note

As part of the Transport and General Workers Union deposit, the Centre also holds records relating to the National Glass Workers' Trade Protection Association, and its predecessor organisations (MSS.126/YG). The university library also holds a volume of the Yorkshire Glass Bottle Makers' United Trade Protection Society records, formerly part of the Board of Trade's library. Authority files exist for both William Bagley (GB 152 AAR0700) and the Yorkshire Glass Bottle Makers' United Trade Protection Society (GBR 0152 AAR268).

Custodial History

The collection was deposited with the Centre in 1989 by Lt.-Col. J.D. Elliott, great-grandson of William Bagley.

Accruals

  • 1993 The addresses of appreciation to Dr. Stanley Bagley were donated to the Centre by Mr. and Mrs. Wyndham Parsons.
