D M S Watson was Jodrell Professor of Zoology from 1921 to 1951 and was responsible for the expansion of the Department in those years. It was primarily by his efforts that the College acquired the former Shoolbred's warehouse and mattress factory in 1931. The new buildings were named Foster Court in honour of Sir Gregory Foster who had died in 1931.
