Frank Wallis Galton 1867 - 1952

Frank Wallis was educated at Medburn Street Board School and the Working Mens'College in Great Ormond Street. He was apprenticed to a silversmith andengraver but soon left to enter journalism and politics. From 1892 to 1898 Galtonwas private secretary to social reformers Sidney (1859 - 1947) and Beatrice Webb(1858 - 1943). He was also secretary of the London Reform Union 1899 - 1918 and secretaryof the London Liberal Association, 1903 - 1905. During the war he was assistantsecretary to the Central Association of Volunteer Regiments.

He was editor of The Weekly Organ The Volunteer Gazette and editor of theMunicipal Journal 1918 - 1920.

His publications include:

  • Select documents illustrating the history of trade unionism 1: the TailoringTrade (1896)
  • Workers on their Industries (1896)
