Administrative / Biographical History

Elizabeth Anne Lochhead was born in Motherwell in 1947. She attended Dalziel High School in Motherwell, and by the time she was 15 had decided to go to art school. She wrote her first poem, 'The Visit', after she entered Glasgow School of Art in 1965.

Liz Lochhead was awarded the Queen's Gold Medal for Poetry in 2015. Between 2011 and 2016 she was the Makar, or National Poet of Scotland.
