They came down here on 7 day night, left London soon after 8 o clock in an Omnibus, extremely warm but had most pleasant company of Isaac and S Robson, Josiah Forster and John Allen, the last a very superior man naturally and spiritually; left the great city 'brilliant with gas & teeming with people' and were glad to see the fields and trees again; description of place in Bruce Grove where they are staying, and its beautiful gardens; news of the Bale family; took tea at F. Fox's, Frank is a good deal grown; Christopher Barker and his sister, and R. Naish dined; glad Joseph had a pleasant trip to [Langwith]; 'I suppose you may be mapping this week, it would be pleasant to get the examination papers finished I think'; tell Hannah and Sally they have a cat there that reminds her of theirs, it took a seat at the tea table and waited patiently for something; hopes his birthday was a pleasant day, 'at thirteen thou seems getting quite an old boy, I hope thou wilt try increasingly to act as is suited to thy increasing age'.
