Administrative / Biographical History
The Federation of Post Office Supervising Officers was founded in 1916 as the Joint Committee of Post Office Supervisory Officers. It was an umbrella organisation for a number of unions covering supervising officers and changed its name in 1918. In January 1952 it ceased to exist as a result of the formation of the Post Office Controlling Officers' Association, which was created by an amalgamation of most of its members.

All those unions which have now merged to form the Communication Managers' Association have been given the reference MSS.225. They are further divided into collections by an alphabetical suffix.
