Scope and Content

Large issues of 180 plus pages carry much advertising. I.T. Publications address now in Park Lane, London. Brief indexes of contents followed by longer summaries in French/Portuguese/Spanish. Regular Thinking Ahead feature maintained. New series on Elements of Design begins in 7/1947.

1947 Jan

No 1/1947. Opening article by John Piper on St. Matthew's Church, Northampton, with works by Moore and Sutherland. Issue includes feature on Letter Headings, articles on knitting wools and children's wear, and a summary of fashion news and trends entitled 'International Textiles a Topical Digest'.

1947 Feb

No 2/1947. As explained in editorial, due to current severe coal crisis, issue is late and incomplete (pages 79-114 missing). It contains sketches of Royal Fashions for South Africa, examples of rainwear and millinery, also Thinking Ahead.

1947 Mar

No 3/1947. Editorial confirms presses are working again and is confident that Government's export target for 1947 will be met. This issue of 224 pages includes items missing from 2/1947, also articles on Couture fabrics and the production and processing of rayon. Topical Digest continues, and technical information on British patents and trademarks is contained in this and subsequent issues.

1947 Apr

No 4/1947. Five articles on the first post-war British Industries Fair (May 1947) illustrates new fabrics and designs. Issues also surveys Australian contribution to International Wool Study Group, and shows examples of hand painted silk scarves, also furnishing fabrics and differing weaves in worsted and woollens.

1947 May

No 5/1947. Lead article by Sidney Rogerson on Colour in Britain contains illustrations of birds by Charles Tunnicliffe. Short pictorial review of B.I.F. precedes feature on the photographing of fashion models at Hampton Court. Final article in Arts and Craft series is on Jewellery, with illustrations of techniques and of the work of A.Massey and Sah Oved.

1947 June

No 6/1947. Index heads with British wool Textiles for China, and includes features on men's casual wear, swimwear and fashions suitable for teenagers. Articles headed 'Convention or Fashion' discusses influence of both on colour preferences, and 'Flying for Business' illustrates four suitable light aircraft.
