The Association dated from 1846, and was based at Quay Street, Manchester. Its objects were to provide religious instruction for the adult deaf and dumb, to assist the deaf and dumb find employment, and relieve distress, and to provide various social activities for the adult deaf and dumb. The Association provided religious services, evening classes, a small sums bank, and a variety of social entertainments. The Association appears to have had no connections with the Adult Deaf and Dumb Institute, and was possibly in competition with it.
