Administrative / Biographical History
Papers relating to the Manchester Joint Hospitals Advisory Board, established in 1935, and its successor body, the Manchester, Salford and Stretford Joint Hospitals Advisory Board (established 1942). The Board was originally established to promote cooperation between local hospitals in the provision of services, accommodation, and education and research. The Board's membership comprised representatives of the City Corporation's Public Health Committee, the Voluntary Statutory Committee (representing the voluntary hospitals) and the University of Manchester. The Board as wound up in 1947, when the new National Health Service set up regional hospital boards.
