The MMEA issued its first tariff of medical fees in 1865. It provided guidance for the appropriate fees to be charged for various types of medical work by its members. The charges were set out for general practitioners and consultants, and charges were based on the residential rental of the patient. Charges were laid out for visits, attendance at surgery, midwifery, vaccination, issuing of certificates and costs for surgical operations.
