Series of Applications to and Decisions of the Licensing Authority in each Traffic Area in respect of the carriage of goods by roads, under the Road & Rail Traffic Act 1933 and subsequent relevant legislation (A & Ds).

Administrative / Biographical History

Road Haulage Applications and Decisions commenced in 1934 and were discontinued during the Second World War (c August 1939-July 1946).

The collection is arranged in the following order: East Midlands (lacks most of 1973); Eastern; Metropolitan (lacks pre-1939); North Eastern; North Western; Northern (North Eastern TA before April 1984, lacks Autumn 1973, Spring 1974, mid-1977 to late 1978); Northern Scotland (merged with Southern Scotland (commenced in August 1946); South Wales; Southern Scotland (merged with Northern Scotland from 1946); West Midlands; Western (lacks February 1983-October 1984).

There are no restrictions on access to these papers.

Acquisition Information

The Applications and Decisions series was taken in by the Kithead Trust, the national transport archive for the road passenger industry, and was transferred by the Trust to the Centre through the Roads and Road Transport History Conference.
