Administrative / Biographical History

Robert Noel Turner CMG (1912-1987) served as a cadet in the Malayan Civil Service from 1935, rising to the rank of Administrative Officer Class V in 1938. Hewas seconded to Brunei as Assistant Resident in 1940. From 1941-1945, duringthe Second World War, he was interned by the Japanese. He was seconded toSarawak in 1946 as Assistant Secretary, then took the post of AdministrativeOfficer Class III in Malaya 1947. In 1948 he became 1stAssistant, Malayan Establishment Office, then Colonial Secretary, Barbados in 1950.He served as Chief Secretary, North Borneo, 1956-1963 and State Secretary,Sabah, 1963-1964.He was made Chief Secretary, North Borneo in 1956 and retired in 1964.
