Administrative / Biographical History

Victor Horsley was born on 14 August 1906 and attended High Pavement Secondary School, Stanley Road, Nottingham. He left the school in December 1925, having passed his School Certificate examinations in June 1924, June 1925 and December 1925. He went on to study at University College, Nottingham on the Teacher's Training Course. He lived in the Bulwell area and married his wife Irene Hill in 1932.

High Pavement School was founded by High Pavement Chapel in 1788, and was one of the first non-sectarian charity schools in the country. Its original premises were in the street of the same name in Nottingham. It was taken over by the Nottingham School Board as a Higher Grade School in 1892, and three years later it moved to Stanley Road in the Forest Fields area of Nottingham in 1895. In 1931 it became a single-sex boys' grammar school, and in 1955 it moved to Bestwood. In 1975 the school became a sixth-form college.
