Administrative / Biographical History

The Institute of Baths Management was founded in 1921 as the Association of Bath Superintendents. It was incorporated in 1931 and became the National Association of Bath Superintendents (Incorporated). In c.1962 it became the Institute of Baths Management (Incorporated). The institute's objectives were to provide a central organisation for those employed in public or private baths, to promote their interests and to improve co-operation between members. A large proportion of its work was concerned with education and training.

Acquisition Information

The archive was deposited in 1988 on loan for thirty years, after which time it would become a gift to the Centre. The material was passed to the Centre through Hackney Borough Archives.
