The format of the case books changes throughout the administration of Hawkhead/Leverndale.
From HB24/5/1-22, the volumes are named by letter according to Hawkhead's record keeping convention. The letter does not correspondence to the surname of patients, rather it is simply used instead of a number.
Conversely, from HB24/5/37-86, the labeling does refer to the patients' surnames and the subsequent ordering of the case notes. These case notes are, for the most part, separated into male and female, though HB24/5/48, 53, and 59 are exceptions.
