Papers of the Earls of Clarendon

The collection is divided as follows:

• Papers relating to the Earls of Clarendon of the first creation
• Papers relating to the Earls of Clarendon of the second creation
• Other papers, consisting of: Barham papers; collections of William Shaw; heraldic collections; literary papers

The Earls of Clarendon represented in this collection are Edward Hyde, 1st Earl of Clarendon of the first creation; Thomas Villiers, 1st Earl of Clarendon of the second creation (1709-1786); and George William Frederick Villiers, 4th Earl of Clarendon (1800-1870), Lord Lieutenant of Ireland.

The papers were deposited in the Bodleian Library in 1949.
